Nathan Emmons recently transitioned to Seattle from The Bishop’s School, as Head of Upper School Drama, in La Jolla, California, where he joined the Performing Arts Department in 2018.

He teaches courses in acting, direction, and technical theatre, with an emphasis on social justice, physical theatre, and Shakespeare. He received his Master of Fine Arts in Acting from the University of Delaware’s Professional Theatre Training Program in 2007. He has a Master of Arts in Theatre Production and Design from Southern Oregon University in 2016. He also has his Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Literature from Reed College, class of 1999.

Before and after graduate school he worked on tour with the Missoula Children’s Theatre, touring around the country and Japan as an actor and director. He also toured with Enchantment Theatre Company’s The Velveteen Rabbit in 2007.

Before relocating to San Luis Obispo, he worked professionally in Philadelphia and in northern California’s theatre community, heading a Performing Arts Department which produced six mainstage shows a year, including two musicals.

He has worked with Seattle companies: Akropolis Performance Laboratory, Consolidated Works’ 14/48 Play Festival, Annex Theatre, and Bridges International Repertory Theatre. Other regional credits are with Philadelphia’s Azuka Theatre, the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, and San Luis Obispo’s SLO Little Theatre. He also had the privilege of traveling to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with his Nipomo High students in 2015, and counts that as one of the most rewarding teaching and theatrical experiences.
